Wicked

April 1, 2024

I’ve been wanting to see Wicked on Broadway for years but just never put the plan in motion because procrastination. Well, I finally got to see it this weekend! I made a date to see it with my friend Kayla who’s also been wanting to see it so it worked out perfectly.

I’ve only heard bits and pieces about Wicked but never knew the whole storyline and avoided trying to read wikipedia and plot summaries/synopsis about it to keep the element of surprise and let the story speak for itself. I didn’t want to go into it too hyped up or having any biases and expectations. And I’m really glad I did. It was so good! The story was so sad and the ending so bittersweet. It was a happy and not so happy ever after ending, which are sometimes the best type of endings because everything tying up nicely with a bow isn’t real and too expected. I love that the show had a bit of comedy and a bit of tragedy. I really hope the movie adaptation coming out soon does it justice because let’s just say the Mean Girls musical…….did not, lol. If you haven’t seen Wicked, I highly recommend it! I’m not going to spoil anything by giving it a full on review. I will say the actors in this production were phenomenal. The set design, the costumes, everything was giving. I’m so glad I finally got to see it and before the movie came out. It took nearly 20 years but better late than never, right?

After the show, we got dinner at Pasta Lover’s since Kayla was feeling Italian. I had linguine fruitti de mare which was really good. I always love when I can find this dish but sometimes they make it too spicy for my liking. This one was just right. Kayla got the rigatoni bolognese, which was my second choice because you can never go wrong with a classic bolognese.

After I wanted to visit the Krispy Kreme location since I haven’t gone to it since it opened but was severely disappointed. The store seemed bigger in other people’s stories. This was a IG vs reality case. It was smaller than I expected and not much going on. There wasn’t anything crazy or exclusive. No holiday specials or anything, no fun merchandise but there were still long lines….for no reason. I guess because tourists wanna tourist but it was a letdown for me. We left within minutes. Watching the behind the scenes making of them behind the glass wasn’t that interesting with lines hiding the view. I feel like they need to make the layout better for a fun experience.

I tried to go to the Line Friends store for bunny merch but was sticker shocked by the price of small keychains and quickly left there too. I get that I was in Times Square so everything is so expensive on top of inflation but damn. Maybe it’s a good thing because it helped me save money but not wanting to buy anything. It was a sign. Maybe the whole day was a sign because I wanted Miffy merch at the Kinokuniya store and I was not about to pay $15.95 for two paper clips. I settled on a plush instead to bring home for Banh Mi. Our last stop was Nordstrom because I wanted to see if they had the latest House of CB dresses for me to try on sizes since ordering online from the company itself is such a dice toss with its reputation of bad customer service, but alas, a snag there too. The store itself has changed layout since last year and when I found the House of CB area, there wasn’t a lot at all. Nothing to try on. This is a sign from above to help me save money, I guess. But at least we got our steps in for the day! I had a great time still, walking with Kayla and catching up. It reminded me of the prior weekend I was in the city with Kerri when we walked around and just caught up. It’s funny how as we get older, we have less and less opportunities to spend time with our friends and we enjoy doing the simpler things now even though we have more means to do more. I used to wish I had more money to do more things with friends, but now I just wish we had more time with each other. I’m looking forward to next weekend, hoping for nice weather to see my friends again and hopefully some blooms to shoot.

A Pinch of Sprinkles

March 30, 2024

A new bakery A Pinch of Sprinkles opened up near me and I’ve been meaning to check it out for Christmas and then Valentine’s but didn’t get around to it til just recently for Easter. And it didn’t disappoint! It’s the cutest little bakery that changes decorations seasonally, which I absolutely adore so you KNOW I’ll be visiting often for the gram. There’s so many cute things to look at, so much detail, and so many cute things to buy if you want accessories and decor for yourself beyond just baked goods! Everything is made fresh and the menu changes daily with cute new creations. I was amazed by the size of their croissants and learned that they were considered the ‘baby’ size. They make mama and papa sized ones on the weekends so of course now I have to find time on one of my weekends off to…you know, do reseach, lol. I wanted to try their strawberry shortcake creation but it was sold out the day we visited so yet another reason I’ll have to come back. I had their peeps donut and my sister had their carrot cake cookie and we devoured everything immediately because it was so good! The whipped cream on top of my donut, I don’t know what it was but it was amazing. I need more of it in my life.

We met the lovely owner and baker Meli and got to know the history of the shop and I LOVE that the bakery is not only women-owned but inspired by and run by her sisters. I’m excited to bring all my sisters here one day. They even offer cute decorating classes from time to time, which would definitely be fun for a sister date. I love that this so close to home and I can’t wait to visit more often for cute pics for the gram, especially since the store has beautiful lighting in a perfectly placed window near the piece de resistance of all the decor, especially if you visit at the right time if you catch it at golden hour. We got lucky on our first visit and I love how the photos came out.

This is definitely a must stop if you’re on the East end/North Fork area this summer on Long Island. It’s in a cute area with a bunch of cute shops and restaurants too so I would definitely make this a stop on your way towards the farm activities, or on your way back from so you can grab a quick bite to eat here. I can’t wait to see what the next set of decorations are going to be and to try more cute creations on the menu!

Up, Up & Away!

March 22, 2024

Spent the weekend in the city with Kerri, one of my best friends this weekend. We didn’t do anything crazy, just relaxed and spent time with each other, catching up and walking around the city, getting our steps in and it was honestly so nice and probably what I’ve been needing to de-stress. I’ve been needing a break to just…be.

We had a quick lunch at Maman and then walked all around Central Park, stopping to take pics at all the cute, instagrammable spots, before meeting up for dinner with another friend, and then walked all the way back down to our hotel in Times Square. It’s funny, I used to shop all the time in Times Square back in college, but now I don’t really go there much. It’s still chaotic and touristy but I still find it fun when I get a chance to walk through. We picked up some late night snacks at Target before calling it a night. I wanted to get to bed a little earlier because the United Half marathon was the next morning and I wanted to get up to cheer a runner friend. I really never had any interest in NYC races (again, the NYC Marathon was not my idea but a bad choice of being friends with terrible influencs lol)but I might try out for the United Half lottery next year to run it with Kerri. A half is definitely doable and running through Times Square would definitely make for a fun Instagram worthy pic.

After the race, we booked it down to the World Trade Center for yoga at the top of the observatory! We got there 30 minutes early, as instructed, which was perfect to have enough time to check in and take cute pics before the class started. The way to the top felt like a Disney ride with similar mood music, scents and an elevator ride show. The class was great; it was easy to do but still a little challenging. I've been enjoying low impact workouts these past months while taking care a break from running, and it's been helping with my core balance and mobility, as well as my endurance when it comes to holding certain poses and pulsing out Pilates moves. The instructor was very zen and encouraging, and I didn’t realize til the end that she was the one singing all through class. I thought it was just part of the music playing. Her voice was so calm and soothing. An additional perk to this experience is you get access to the observatory deck after the class to continue taking in the views, and a $10 credit to use towards the cafe.

We walked over to Chinatown after yoga and had lunch at Sen Saigon, a new vegan Vietnamese restaurant. I had the summer rolls, spring rolls and the pho and they were all so good! The pho was pretty spot on and the tofu was 😘👌. We grabbed ice cream after at Urban Dessert lab and I forgot how good and creamy oat milk soft serve is even though I had this last year. Then I mad dashed it back to the hotel to catch the train in time to get home for the night.

It’s funny because we didn’t do anything crazy but when I got home around 6, my body crashed and I fell asleep on my living room floor next to my bunny because I was just so exhausted. It was definitely a lot of walking this weekend though because I’m stubborn about taking the subway as minimally as I possibly can. I’d rather just walk everywhere if possible, and we got our steps in both days. And what’s even better, although both days were rest days, I still got my steps in and it didn’t hinder any running progress. My runs this week so far have gone great with both interval speed workouts turning out amazing pace PRs for me for one minute intervals. I really hope I can work on this further and make those one minute paces turn into one mile paces. That’s another thing this weekend helped reinforce. I’m ready to get back into running. NYC marathon training had me burned out and the past 4 month break has been really nice and just what the doctor ordered. I’m ready to jump back in and this time I’m really determined to run with intention instead of just lacing up my shoes and running out the door. We’re going to go in with a plan, we’re going to celebrate all the baby wins and progress, and most of all, I want to have fun with this training session. I’m going to warm up and cool down, and practice more yoga to work on my mobility and flexibility to avoid injury. I’m learning you truly have to slow down in order to speed up! Here’s to finally getting excited about 2024!
